mani inspiration: valentine’s day

roses

In the midst of this dreary, snowy and seemingly endless winter, I am jumping at the opportunity to get a bright, fun manicure in honor of Valentine’s Day! I love getting my nails done every other week (sometimes weekly if I’m really in need of pampering) and I tend to stick to darker colors throughout the colder months. For our dinner date tomorrow, I am trying to decide between pink and red…I’m leaning towards pink this time since it is such a reminder of spring! Are you planning on getting your nails done for your V day plans?

Here are some of my favorite nail colors for Valentine’s Day:

deblippman_break4love

Deborah Lippmann – Break 4 Love $18

A cheery & fun bubblegum pink!

essie_long stem roses

Essie – Long Stem Roses $8.50

What a suitable name for the holiday! This color looks just like soft, red rose petals.

bottle_service

Essie – Bottle Service $8.50

This pink truly pops & is so fun! It reminds me of little hearts scribbled on love notes.

berry daring

OPI – That’s Berry Daring $8

This lovely shade is perfect for those who aren’t as into the red and pink theme of Valentine’s Day. Plum shades are definitely another great option!

beauty find of the week: caldrea body wash

There are so many amazing body washes and soaps to choose from, but my latest favorite is Caldrea’s Aloe Water Apricot Body Wash.

caldrea body wash

This product is incredibly luxurious and you only need to use a dime-sized amount. Although its fairly pricey at $18, it is definitely worth the splurge if you’re interested in body washes. Your skin feels so soft after you shower, and the sweet scent persists long afterwards.

I discovered Caldrea’s products through my Birchbox. If you haven’t signed up for Birchbox yet, you’re missing out! Birchbox is a monthly subscription beauty box for only $10/month (including shipping!) and it truly is a surprise in your mailbox. You learn about so many fun brands and get to try a variety of beauty products you may never have ventured to test out before. I love that you can collect Birchbox points as you make purchases or review products, and you can apply them to your order in their Birchbox shop (a whole online store where you can buy the goods you love!). fall look: metallics & glitter

What are your thoughts on metallic or glittery nails for this season? Essie has a lot of great shades out! Do you think they’re a good everyday look or more suitable for a special wintry occasion?

Here are some of my favorites:

GOOD AS GOLD – 2012 Collection

good as gold

I love this gold color – it is metallic, but still creamy and smooth. I think gold is a great choice during the holidays and it can really add a unique touch to your outfit.

PENNY TALK – 2012 Collection

penny talk

This is a perfect, shimmery bronze shade. It reminds me of the autumn leaves but it also has an edgy look to it.

PEAK OF CHIC – 2013 COLLECTION

peak of chic

Besides its fabulous name, Peak of Chic is a frosty color that looks lovely over silver or white. It is lovely for snowy winters and glitzy enough for a holiday party.

BELUGARIA – 2013 Collection

belugaria

This is a wild, fun color that requires a couple of shades of top coat to manage the texture of the polish! I love the uniqueness of the color but I definitely would reserve this flashy shade for a night out!

i’m in love with my ipsy october glam bag

I am beyond excited about all of the great products I got in this month’s Ipsy glam bag! Check out the goodies below:

Image

Zoya Nail Polish in ‘Giovanna’ – $8

This color is stunning – I love the metallic look and the spectrum of blues and greens. It is unique and Zoya is an awesome brand!

Image

Big Sexy Hair – Blow Dry Volumizing Gel – 1.7 oz – $5

This gel really makes your hair feel and look thick without heavy application. I don’t use hair products very often, but this is great to have on hand.

Image

BUXOM Lip Polish in Gabby – Full Size $19

I received a sample size of this amazing plumping lip polish. It is long lasting and a beautiful, dark color for winter months. I’m very excited to wear this all season long!

Image

La Fresh Oil-Free Face Cleanser Wipes – $9.99 for a 30 pack

I received TWO (yes, TWO!) 10 packs of these face wipes. These bad boys come in handy 24/7 – lazy nights, early mornings, after a gym session, and the list goes on. They are fragrance-free and biodegradable to boot. MUST HAVE!

Cake Beauty Be Delectable Moisture Body Lotion – Coconut & Cream – $12

DELICIOUS!!! This lotion is perfection. It is a blend of coconut oil, aloe vera and shea butter. It smells “delectable” (as it is so conveniently named) and it nourishes your skin completely. I am determined to try the other “flavors”: lemon & cream, strawberry & cream and vanilla & cream.

Can I just remind everyone an Ipsy subscription is $10 per month including shipping? The value I received in this bag is just unbelievable. I am over the moon right now!! Sign up today!!!

spotlight on cc skye

CC SKYE is an awesome jewelry/handbag designer based in LA! She has a variety of gorgeous baubles- punk, glam & funky. I love the pave gold earrings, rings & cuffs. This is definitely a line that requires saving up for – but everyone deserves to splurge once in awhile, don’t they? 🙂

Here are a couple of my favorite pieces in her jewelry line:

pave wicked ring

Pave Wicked Ring

whats your name

What’s Your Name Necklace

mariner blet

Mariner Bracelet

vintage show stopper ring

Vintage Show Stopper Ring

I suppose I’m obsessed with gold and sparkle!! What are your favorites?

ipsy september glam bag review

Here is a belated review of my September glam bag from Ipsy! Every month, it is so much fun to see the glam bag theme and all of the hand-picked beauty goodies. I’m expecting my October bag in a little over a week and I will definitely share the surprises I get!

elizabeth mott mascata

Elizabeth Mott – It’s So Big Volumizing Mascara – $19.99

Definitely adds volume to your lashes! There are so many great mascaras out there though, so it is hard to compare them. This one sort of reminds me of Benefit Cosmetics mascara.

cailyn lip balm

Cailyn – Tinted Lip Balm in Big Apple – $19

The color is vibrant, long-lasting and applies smoothly. I really love the color! It is perfect for all seasons and I love that it is a full-size item, not sample size!

skyn icelands

Skyn Iceland – Hydro Cool Firming Eye Gels – $30 for 8 pairs

These gels feel awesome on your skin! However, I think I need to try them out a few more times to get a better sense of how effective they are. Ipsy did provide 2 pairs of the gels in my bag, which is great, but I would like to buy the 8 pair pack so I can try them out a couple of days in a row.

nyx eye shadow

Nyx – Single Eye Shadow – $4.50

Nothing too special or unique about this eye shadow, however the color is daring! I would not buy this color on my own, so it is a fun glam bag treat.

starlooks eye pencil

Starlooks – Eye Pencil – $12.00

I am more of a liquid eye liner girl, but this eye pencil draws on easily and lasts all day.

Anyone else subscribe to Ipsy? Share your feedback about the September products in the comments below!

my fall 2013 essie wishlist

Essie is by far my favorite nail polish brand! They have hundreds of options in every shade you can think of. The polish is long-lasting and true to color, which I love.

As we transition into fall fashion, I also change the array of nail polish colors I wear. I definitely consider nail color a key part of an overall wardrobe. Check out my top picks for Essie nail color this fall:

Image

Essie – Downtown Brown

I am wearing this chocolate brown right now and I absolutely love it! It is the perfect shade of brown without being boring. I also like the teeny bit of deep red that seems to appear with the brown.

Image

Essie – Red Nouveau

Red is one of my favorite nail colors because I love its classic look. I think this red has an autumnal feel to it because of its burnt orange undertones. It reminds of the beautiful oranges and reds you’d see in New England fall foliage.

Image

Essie – Mink Muffs

This smoky color is neutral and goes great with the darker colors of fall. It reminds me of the crisp air and makes me want to wear boots and a scarf.

Image

Essie – Buy Me A Cameo

This polish looks like satin and is a creamy, neutral tone. It is muted but lovely color.

Image

Essie – Midnight Cami

Perfect for a night out – this color reminds of the cool nights of fall. It also has a very elegant look to it and I love being able to throw in a pop of color in cooler weather.

What are some of your go-to nail colors for the fall season?
