snail mail love

one of my favorite feelings is getting something personal (and not bills!) in my mailbox. just seeing handwriting instead of typed font is so lovely! i realized recently that i don’t even know what some of my friends’ and family’s handwriting looks like. i truly think your writing style reflects your personality and uniqueness in some ways.

stamps

in the world today, the focus is on convenience and speed. sometimes it’s nice to just slow down and appreciate the little things, like a handwritten note from a friend for no particular reason. i wanted to share a couple of fun places to buy note cards:

nicely noted – stationary subscription service

for $20/month, you receive 3 letterpress cards & stamps, specially curated by nicely noted. each card is unique and straight from a lettershop.

paper sheep – note collections

such pretty note card options at paper sheep! they also have other products, like tea towels and notebooks you can purchase.

etsy – the pumpkin paper company

there are so many shops on etsy, but one of my favorites is the pumpkin paper company. how cute is the name of shop? i love the simplicity and elegance of their items.

papyrus – stationary HQ

papyrus has such amazing items in general. their site is featuring a collab with kate spade new york right now that’s so great.

do you have any favorite places to buy note cards? write on!

I’m a huge fan of Williams-Sonoma ever since becoming a homeowner. I definitely consider the company to be the front-runner in top home products & tools, and even some specialty food items. Until recently, I never knew they had a team of food experts running their blog, Taste. This is now one of my top 5 bookmarked blogs and I rely on it heavily for great recipe ideas! The recipes they post range in complexity, but are always creative and inspiring.

Taste highlights recipes by season, spotlights ingredients, Sunday supper ideas, baking and more. The blog also covers amazing entertaining and holiday tips. The content is engaging and unique; it really serves as a guide for the kitchen. I love it! Here are a couple of my favorite recipes:

mani inspiration: valentine’s day

roses

In the midst of this dreary, snowy and seemingly endless winter, I am jumping at the opportunity to get a bright, fun manicure in honor of Valentine’s Day! I love getting my nails done every other week (sometimes weekly if I’m really in need of pampering) and I tend to stick to darker colors throughout the colder months. For our dinner date tomorrow, I am trying to decide between pink and red…I’m leaning towards pink this time since it is such a reminder of spring! Are you planning on getting your nails done for your V day plans?

Here are some of my favorite nail colors for Valentine’s Day:

deblippman_break4love

Deborah Lippmann – Break 4 Love $18

A cheery & fun bubblegum pink!

essie_long stem roses

Essie – Long Stem Roses $8.50

What a suitable name for the holiday! This color looks just like soft, red rose petals.

bottle_service

Essie – Bottle Service $8.50

This pink truly pops & is so fun! It reminds me of little hearts scribbled on love notes.

berry daring

OPI – That’s Berry Daring $8

This lovely shade is perfect for those who aren’t as into the red and pink theme of Valentine’s Day. Plum shades are definitely another great option!

beauty find of the week: caldrea body wash

There are so many amazing body washes and soaps to choose from, but my latest favorite is Caldrea’s Aloe Water Apricot Body Wash.

caldrea body wash

This product is incredibly luxurious and you only need to use a dime-sized amount. Although its fairly pricey at $18, it is definitely worth the splurge if you’re interested in body washes. Your skin feels so soft after you shower, and the sweet scent persists long afterwards.

I discovered Caldrea’s products through my Birchbox. If you haven’t signed up for Birchbox yet, you’re missing out! Birchbox is a monthly subscription beauty box for only $10/month (including shipping!) and it truly is a surprise in your mailbox. You learn about so many fun brands and get to try a variety of beauty products you may never have ventured to test out before. I love that you can collect Birchbox points as you make purchases or review products, and you can apply them to your order in their Birchbox shop (a whole online store where you can buy the goods you love!). There’s a great deal going on now for new subscribers – if you sign up, your first box will be a special, curated box by Rent the Runway, another fab company! eco-living: common good

Since buying our first home last winter, I’ve gotten into trying out different household supplies brands. One of my most recent favorites is common good.

green household products

common good is a family-owned household supply company that focuses on being green, and making products that are not only safe for everyone, but stylish to leave out around their home. Below are some of my favorite products (and OH, they have really wonderful scents to choose from!):

lavender laundry detergent

Lavender is an amazing fragrance that can be used year-round. I absolutely love the scent on my clothes and linens. This detergent is so lovely and the scent is long-lasting. You’ll actually be excited for laundry day!

I love that this cleaner can be used on hardwood, bamboo, tile and more. It’s so nice that it’s completely safe since I have a dog who plays on our floors.

valentine’s day treats

One of my favorite things about each holiday is making food that helps capture the excitement! I love going outside the box and being creative when it comes to food. Here are links to some of my favorite ideas for valentine’s day bites!

sweet as pie

valentine's pie

How delicious does this pie look? The pie crust is what’s really eye-catching here, so you can make whatever type of pie you’d like – strawberry, cherry, apple…whatever your sweetheart loves! Pie is perfect year-round, but i do love it most in the cold months.

cupid’s cupcakes

cupcakes

I am obsessed with these cupcakes! I like how these treats put a new spin on cupcake toppers with Cupid’s arrows. How sweet!

chocolate covered strawberries

choc strawberries

These are the perfect snacks for Valentine’s Day! I think it’s easy to overlook this simple recipe but they are a great mix of healthy and sweets. This is a very simple treat to whip up for you and your valentine.

fruit skewers

fruit skewers

Use a heart cookie cutter and cut up assorted melons for a fresh love themed snack! I love the rainbow of colors. You can use yogurt for a healthy dip.

breakfast in bed

vdaybfast

Everyone loves breakfast in bed, so why not make it even cuter? I found an article on JillianHarris.com with these great breakfast ideas. I made the homefries this morning – so easy and tasty. I love the strawberry milk but grapefruit mimosas or pink lemonade mimosas would also be lovely.

treatsie box review

i have seen so many different kinds of subscription boxes! my favorites have always been beauty boxes but recently, i came across treatsie, a monthly box of artisan sweets & confections. i just knew i had to try it out! i absolutely love this idea of a culinary subscription box and i’m excited to say i’m obsessed with my first one.

Image

they have super cute packaging. i couldn’t wait to open it up! i chose ‘the sweets box’ ($15/month + S&H) but you can also subscribe to ‘the chocolate bar box’ ($39/month + S&H) treatsie would also make the perfect gift for someone with a sweet tooth!

Image

the presentation is great and i like that the box is stuffed with goodies!

i received three packages of cc made gourmet organic popcorn: classic caramel, pistachio caramel, and rosemary cashew. the flavors are so unique!

the willamette valley confectionery jellies are amazing. my treatsie came with strawberry rhubarb, raspberry and marionberry. i had never even heard of marionberries before but they’re so delicious! these jelly treats taste great after popping them in the fridge for a bit first.

i also got a package of serendipity confections salted caramels. these are slow-cooked and mouth-watering. definitely a must-try.

i think treatsie is such a fun subscription box and worth trying out. it is a way to test out various candies and confections…and who doesn’t like something sweet in their mailbox!
